SAN FRANCISCO, December 1, 2010 — User interface design company Punchcut® named Lonny Chu director of interaction design today as part of its expanding mobile practice. Chu’s work with multi-device experiences and convergent solutions will extend the company’s specialization in delivering seamless, next-generation mobile experiences.
“We’re reaching a critical turning point," Chu says, "where behaviors are swallowing up the notion of computing devices, and people are beginning to think not in terms of phones or tablets but in terms of the things they want to accomplish. That’s Punchcut’s idea of the mobile lifestyle and I look forward to continuing its evolution.”
Chu brings twenty years of experience designing UIs and studying Human-Computer Interaction. He received his master’s degree from Northwestern University and holds a doctorate from Stanford University, both of which have provided Chu with a background in next-generation technologies and a foundation in targeted user research. Prior to joining Punchcut, he consulted with major mobile networks and manufacturers like Palm, AT&T and Sprint to deliver innovative UI solutions. Since 2006, he has worked closely with Punchcut as a key member of the team’s interaction design practice.
"Lonny is a great fit for us," says Delivery Director Judy Howe. "He works very well in tight spaces, and he finds ways to being creative, whatever the constraints may be. He has a great sense of how to keep moving things forward, and that carries over to his effectiveness as a mentor and a leader for our design team."
"Much of what I hope to accomplish is continuing to make Punchcut more than a place to go to work," says Chu. "We want to grow the practice, do more to reach out to the design community, and get our IXD work out there. The best way to make that happen is encouraging our designers to grow, on project level and beyond. As individuals grow, so does the practice and so does the company."
