PALO ALTO, August 20, 2010 — Gretchen Anderson, a design director at Punchcut, discusses the impact of designing the controls of a digital device, and its effect on users' response and understanding of devices. She will speak at BayCHI August 10, 2010.
The signature features of a device interface become a device's most recognizable attribute, their "facial features". Gretchen will outline the enormous importance of creating the right first impression of a device experience by prioritizing the correct controls of a device, whether physical or screen-based. She discusses the complex endeavor of deciding on a product's facial features which requires team collaboration to determine which controls are needed, and how they appear and relate to a product's form. Touch- and gesture-based interfaces aside; cues are necessary to point to (or obscure) the function, value, and desire of a product.
Gretchen Anderson is director of Solutions design at Punchcut.
